subscribeWhat is podcasting?

I have gotten this question a few times in the past few years since I started podcasting.  And the answer is pretty simple.

It’s an on-demand radio show that you retrieve via the Internet.  Have you ever had a situation where you’re listening to your local morning zoo radio show and in the middle of an interesting interview or topic,  you get where you were driving and you want to sit and listen to the rest,  but you’ve got other things to do.  Podcasts allow you to go back and listen.  Some are available to listen to live as the show is happening and allow for listeners to participate via Skype calls, phone calls, instant feedback chats or via social media sources like Twitter, Facebook, and Google+.

And there are literally thousands of podcasts out there on a variety of topics with a variety of hosts from Sports personalities, to musicians to stand up comedians to Hollywood writers and actors.  The bonus factor to doing a podcast is you don;t have to be trained in radio or be famous to do a show.  With the spoils of modern technology,  you can record a podcast from just about any mobile device, computer, or tablet.  It’s simply a recorded conversation with a slight semblance of order.

I got attracted to podcasting listening to some of Kevin Smith’s podcasts and it intrigued me hearing friends get together and just talk about memories and promote each others projects.

What is your podcast about?

Truth be told, I do TWO different podcasts.  All have a light hearted comedy edge to them.  My shows are:

My Current Podcasts:

Tales from the Parade Route:  In this video podcast, we interview various captains and members of krewes,  dance and marching groups,  and Mardi Gras personalities.  We get the stories behind the krewes and get a more in depth history of Mardi Gras.

The Scoop:  We interview various musicians, artists, and New Orleans perosnalities to get the story behind their work.

My old podcasts:

the Picklescoop Show: A 3 hour podcast with a host of characters including Czar TAOMG, Mayday and Krazy  along with myself. Several other friends have come from time to time and served as guest hosts.
The first hour, we interview guests from the local rock music, comedy, and art scenes, discussing recent and upcoming shows and the guests various projects.
The Second Hour is the Unreality Hour.  Think of this as Theater of the Mind.  We created a superhero movie called Sunday Night Stars, a cop show called NOLA Blue, and currently we’re doing a “kids show” called Krazy Laughing Fireclown.
The Third hour is Pickle with the Scoop where we discuss some of the back page odd news of the world.  During the show,  you’ll hear us duke it out with “the Lemur”, our monster of sound bytes. We also accept callers, as we record Sundays starting at 7:30pm CST.  You can call in and join in at 985.377.9780.

the NOW Show:  This one is myself and the 2 vocalists of Dirtiest Players, a local rock-rap mesh.  NOW stands for New Orleans Wrestling.  We discuss the gossip and give our own twist to the world of Professional Wrestling/Sports Entertainment.  We typically go about 2 hours.  If you’re a hardcore wrestling fan or an occasional guilty pleasure watcher of wrestling,  you may get a good laugh out of this show.  This show we record bi monthly

Minds Affliction:  On this one,  Shane, Czar TAOMG, and myself discuss often controversial or debated topics.  We’ve had a handful of guests join us.  This one is recorded usually bimonthly on Tuesdays.  Some the topics we’ve discussed include suicide,  the effects of over-religion, the utopian world, to name a few.

Are you the only guy that does podcasts locally?

No,  There are several folks that do podcasts locally.  Some of them include:

MHOG Podcast – Buddy Buck, and Rum Guy have a mix of guests including cosplayers, musicians, comedians, comic book artists, and more to discuss their various projects, and some of the hot topics of the news.

BSI Podcast: Recorded in conjunction with the BSI Comic Book store in Metairie, LA, Buck Lightning and a variety of comic book fans and artists get together to discuss the world of Comic Books and Comics related news.

Popcorn, Piss and Vinegar: Consisting of Chris Tarride, Scott Frilot, and John Beyer discuss Hollywood movie gossip and give reviews of movies.

Super Guillory Brothers Super Fun Show: A video podcast! Your hosts are Brian, Kevin and Trey.  They discuss the world of video games and nerd culture.

Eyes for the Lost: Shane and P Doty interview local rock bands and legends.

Brain StaticLocal guys get together with random artists and New Orleans characters to discuss a smorgasbord of topics.

On the Fly with Uncle Walter:  currently on hiatus,  this podcast consists of Walter, Slim and Rooster.  They have local comedians, musicians, and other artists on and they discuss local events and hot topic news.

In sum,  I’d encourage you to listen to my podcasts and my brethren in the Podcast community.  I promise one of these podcasts will intrigue you to listen to more.
